Black and white or color? / ¿Blanco y negro o color?

I was born as a photographer in black and white. I inherited that way of working from my mother, photographer, along with her disused equipment. For a long time I experimented with the textures of the grays, with the granules of the forced reels, with the temperature of the developer liquid and I was ecstatic under the red light and the inhalation of the chemical vapors of the laboratory. But then I continued exploring further and found the magic of a golden edge in a backlight, the differences of the green ones through slight changes of angle with respect to the sun and, finally, the metric, the rhyme and the musicality of the tone of the skin ... and I got lost. But I am always tempted by the range of grays, the depth of the blacks and the infinite eloquence of pure white.

A suggestion of the landscape can be hidden anywhere, from a humble stone to an immense landscape. Thus, it is possible, of course, to locate that wink of the landscape from an airplane and take a beautiful aerial photograph. But its beauty, its interest or its greatness, if any, should not reside only in that it is an aerial shot. That is just the salt of the photograph. Because, just as we can not eat salt without more ingredients, for a good picture to cook you must bring a refrito, a cooking and a complete seasoning, on top quality ingredients. The degree of salt ... to everyone's taste.

Desires, anhelos

To photograph, for me, is to capture with a camera more than what you see with your eyes. It is to make the photographed object contaminate your way of being, thinking and dreaming. Of your desires, your obsessions and your shortcomings. All your mood should be part of the image.

"And at the bottom of each one of those eyes I inhabited, that is, I inhabited another self, one of the images of myself, and I found the image of her, the most faithful image of her, in the ultraworld that it opens across the semi-liquid sphere of the iris, the darkness of the pupils, the palace of mirrors of the retina, in our true element that extends without borders or borders. ”

La falsa belleza

© Aerial photo by Héctor Garrido

"The academic teaching of beauty is false. We have been so deceived that we can no longer find the shadow of a truth. The beauties of the Parthenon, the Nymphs, the Daffodils, all that is lies. Art is not it is the application of a beauty canon, but what the brain and instinct conceive independent of that canon. "
Pablo Picasso, Art Gazette, 1936.

Amor y muerte

© Aerial photo by Héctor Garrido

When we cut down a tree we remove a small stone from the wall of our house, built all of it beautiful and large, but based on those small parts that together give us shelter.
When we cut down a tree, we cut down a river, a mountain or a forest. Because each of the parties is, in the end, equal to the whole.
When we cut down a tree, we amputate a limb, stop breathing a little and make sure we drink less water and worse.
When we cut down a tree we die a little. Because we are, as he was, a part of this whole, which can be nothing.
